Hope House created The Better Food Company, a social enterprise where 100% of proceeds support their community food work.

Hope House is a registered charity in Guelph, Ontario that provides tangible, compassionate assistance and care to those in the Guelph community and abroad through immediate relief and ongoing support with the goal of a greater level of independence.

Hope House's Core Values

We offer a community that welcomes and encourages people where they can receive immediate relief and ongoing support.

We believe every person matters.

We advocate with and amplify the voices of people living in poverty.

Hope House's Community Food Work

Harvest of Hope

Led by our Community Farmer who applies a permaculture approach, volunteer and community members plant, weed and harvest fresh produce for our Food Market and for distribution to other food security agencies across Guelph.

Hope House's Food Market

The Food Market is a welcoming, choice-based pantry open to both working and non-working individuals and other families who need a helping hand.
Community members are free to shop the market for food and other items while receiving guidance from our volunteers on how to make the most of their budget, and receive ideas on nutritious and delicious recipes.

Hope in Motion

Hope House is one of many organizations that offers a helping hand to members of our community here in Guelph. We believe that partnering and working with others is the best way to serve people at all corners of our community.

Hope in Motion distributes food, clothing, hygiene products and other essential supplies to other service providers in and around Guelph. Hope House receives generous quantities of donated goods each day, and this service ensures that any overflow finds its way to access points throughout the city.

Horticulture Therapy

Our horticultural therapy programming is possible thanks funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and a partnership with The Julien Project. The Julien project is a community-based, charitable organization that provides social and therapeutic gardening opportunities for people of diverse backgrounds and abilities enabling personal growth, community membership, and environmental wellbeing.

Their registered horticultural therapist leads educational kitchen workshops for the Hope House community that use local organic vegetables grown in our gardens at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre.

Community Breakfast

Through the support of volunteers, we are able to offer a take-away breakfast four days per week for community members.

These breakfasts provide a light, nutritious meal and help to get a good start on the day.  Breakfasts change each morning, and some days are as simple as muffins and  yogurt, and other mornings we offer breakfast sandwiches thanks to the generous support of Tricar Properties and Robusta Café.

Hope House Cafe

Hope Hope operates and advocates on the belief that poverty, food insecurity, inequality, health and community are interconnected. Our café is a warm place where everyone in our community can enjoy a warm beverage and build healthy relationships with others. These types of connections can be instrumental in lifting people out of poverty.

Over the years, we’ve watched community members from all walks of life bond and form wonderful friendships in our café – and we look forward to seeing many more.
